One of our favourite country houses, especially for its kid's events. Home to four generations of Rothschilds, so it's not surprising the house contents are so good (including the wine cellar!), and there's a great woodland playground and aviary.
25 acres of working steam railway and museum. Exhibits include steam engines large and small, a royal dining coach and Churchill's meeting coach. Steam train rides, Day Out with Thomas events and other transport-related weekends run through the year.

Bletchley Park was the site of secret British codebreaking activities during WWII and arguably the birthplace of the modern computer. There's lots to see, including various examples of the famous German Enigma cipher machines. A great day out.

The Oxford Castle site was a place of incarceration from 1071 to 1996, and the preserved buildings are now open to the public showcasing the stories of real people who passed through them: inmates, prison keepers and executioners.
